Emirates brings iconic A380 to Jakarta for AC Milan’s return to Italy
Aviation enthusiasts gather as the superjumbo makes its first Indonesian capital appearance
DUBAI – Emirates’ iconic Airbus A380 has touched down in Jakarta for the first time, marking the aircraft’s debut in the Indonesian capital.
The double-decker superjumbo arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on 8th August before carrying AC Milan back to Italy following the club’s 2026 summer pre-season tour.
Its brief appearance drew aviation enthusiasts, plane spotters and football supporters eager to witness the historic arrival.
Historic arrival
The A380 operated the special service after AC Milan’s friendly against Chelsea FC in Indonesia. The aircraft departed Jakarta shortly after midnight on 9 August, completing a visit that gave fans a rare opportunity to see Emirates’ flagship aircraft at one of the country’s busiest airports.
Known for its spacious cabins and onboard facilities, the A380’s first Jakarta landing also marked a new chapter in Emirates’ relationship with Indonesia, where the airline has operated services since 1992.
The special flight also highlighted Emirates’ long-standing association with AC Milan. The Dubai-based carrier is the Italian club’s Official Airline Partner and Principal Partner, supporting its international reach and playing a key role during the team’s 2026 summer pre-season tour.
Football connection
The Indonesian leg of AC Milan’s tour provided supporters with an opportunity to watch the Rossoneri in action while strengthening the club’s connection with its Indonesian fanbase. Emirates’ involvement extended beyond transporting the team, with the airline using the occasion to bring together its aviation and football connections.
Majid Alfalasi, Emirates Country Manager for Indonesia, said the airline was proud to bring the A380 to Jakarta for the first time and fly AC Milan home following its Indonesia tour.
The aircraft’s arrival generated considerable interest among local aviation enthusiasts, with many gathering around the airport to capture its first landing and departure.
Indonesia network
Emirates has now served Indonesia for more than three decades. The airline currently operates 14 weekly flights between Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Dubai.
It also operates two daily services between Denpasar’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport and Dubai. From its Dubai hub, Emirates connects Indonesian travellers with destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.
The Jakarta A380 visit adds another notable chapter to the airline’s Indonesian operations, combining its flagship aircraft with its long-running partnership with one of Europe’s best-known football clubs.
